ACM-W REGIONAL CELEBRATION 2020

ACM-W Regional Celebration 2020 is jointly organised by Padre Conçeicão College of Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology-Goa (IIT – Goa) and Goa University, at Padre Conçeicão College of Engineering, Verna, on 13th March 2020.

ACM-W supports, celebrates, and advocates internationally for the full engagement of women in all aspects of the computing field. The highlight of this year’s event will be a panel discussion by eminent women technocrats, on the topic “Does Gender Impact Technology?”
The theme chosen for ACM-W Regional Celebration 2020 is “Security Technology”. Mr. Riyaz Waliker, Head of Security Research Team at Appsecco, Bengaluru, will deliver the keynote address.
The event will also host the First ACM-India National-level Idea/Prototype Presentation Competition on “Technology for Women Safety” and a Poster Competition on the same topic.

IDEA/ PROTOTYPE PRESENTATION COMPETITION
ON

“TECHNOLOGY FOR WOMEN SAFETY”

The technology sector is responding to the rise in crimes against women in India with a slew of innovative solutions like wearable devices and phone apps. Here is a “Idea/Prototype Presentation Competition” in which proposals are invited from the student community, for software or hardware solutions to women security concerns.

TEAM FORMATION

Each Team should have not more than 3 members and at least 1 member must be a girl-student.

All team members must be currently enrolled in Bachelor’s, Master’s or Research degree programs under the Faculties of Science, Engineering and Management.

PRELIMINARY ROUND

Teams are required to email an extended abstract(word/pdf) (max. 2 pages) to acmw-regional@pccegoa.edu.in before the deadline. The proposal must include the team members’ names, affiliation, communication address and abstract. It should clearly describe the main motivation, idea, technology stack, prototype, and expected results. The submission must be adequately detailed for the selection committee to comprehend the potential contribution(s) of the work.

  • Last date for receiving submissions: 25th February 2020
  • Intimation of selection to participants: 2nd March 2020

FINAL ROUND

The best proposals will be shortlisted for the Idea/ Prototype Presentation Competition at the ACM-W Regional Celebration, at P.C.C.E., Verna, on 13th March 2020.

Remaining proposals may be invited to showcase their ideas in a Poster Competition, also on 13th March 2020.

KEYNOTE ADDRESS

riyazWaliker

Mr. Riyaz Waliker

Head of Security Research Team at Appsecco, Bengaluru, India
Riyaz Walikar currently heads the Security Research Team at Appsecco. His team primarily works on identifying vulnerabilities in cloud solutions, container technologies, web app frameworks, maritime systems and anything else that can be reused by the larger security community. In the past, he has led multiple security testing teams, including the one at Appsecco which is responsible for the assessment and delivery of Web, Mobile Application and Cloud Security Testing engagements. He is an OSCP and CREST certified Web Application Pentester, security evangelist and researcher.

He has been active in the security community for the better part of the last 12 years. He has been actively involved with the Bangalore OWASP and null chapter for the last 9 years and is one of the OWASP Bangalore chapter leads.

In his time in the security industry, Riyaz has penned two books, has trained and spoken at numerous security conferences and helped many Fortune 500 companies become secure by training their teams, testing their apps and responsibly disclosing security weaknesses in enterprise software.

When not dabbling in security research or testing, Riyaz likes to spend his time reading, travelling and stargazing.
